Manuel J. Borja-Villel holds the position of director at the Museum d'Art Contemporani in Barcelons (MACBA) since 1998. In the past few years, he realized exhibitions of, among others, William Kentridge, Martha Rosler, Raymond Pettibon, and Robert Filliou. Borja-Villel was born in Burriana (Spain) in 1957. He studied history of art at Valencia University. In the early 1980's he left for the US, where he obtained a master's degree in philosophy at the City University of New York. In 1989, Borja-Villel was awarded a doctorate in Philosophy at the same university. Borja-Villel returned to Europe in 1990 to become the first director of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona. His publications include studies on Hans Haacke, Lygia Clark, Marcel Broodthaers, and Spanish contemporary art.
