Deimantas Narkevicius

Born in 1964, Utena, Lithuania
Lives in Vilnius, Lithuania

Returning theme in the work of sculptor and filmmaker Deimantas Narkevicius is history seen from a subjective and contemporary view. By using interviews, archive materials, animations and photography Narkevicius brings into focus authentic and existential coloured biographical experiences. Inspired by contemporary themes he reveals historiographic processes and summons questions around cultural identity. Narkevicius often uses technique anachronism in his work by deliberately choosing the use of antiquated attributes such as camera’s and visual and sound recordings from the communist era. This is how he creates an aesthetic who does not respond to the era he lives in but it reflects the time in which the illustrated events take place.
